Racing Karts FAQs

Is it possible to drive my go kart on the street?

Generally speaking, this is not advised. However, there are street karts available which can legally do this. If you have one of these karts, it is important that you attach streamers and lights to the poles on each corner of the kart. Otherwise, you risk not being seen by traffic, which can be dangerous.

How old does my child need to be before he or she can safely ride in a go kart?

That depends largely on the type of kart you have. You most likely don’t want an 8 year-old behind the wheel of a kart that can go 160 mph. However, there are karts specifically designed for kids—often these can be seen in amusement parks. As long as you go over safety rules, these karts, which typically don’t go faster than 15 mph, can be very fun, and a good place to start.

How can I get a kart customized the way I want it?

Some people choose to customize their go karts themselves. This means finding the necessary parts, and welding or otherwise installing them. However, if these mechanical aspects do not appeal to you, you have the option of either shopping for a kart built to your specifics that is already made, or talking to a mechanic. Remember, go karts are vehicles, and most mechanics will be able to provide the options you need, as long as they are adequately compensated.

How can I find the specific parts my go kart requires?

Your kart should have come with a parts manual outlying the model’s specific requirements. If you can’t find your, often these can be downloaded online.
