Racing Karts
Racing karts are designed with one primary function in mind: speed. The overall structure and design is similar to standard go karts, but tweaked to excel on the racing circuit. Racing karts feature an “offset” chassis which was developed to improve the precision of handling and adjustability in left-turn-only race tracks.
There are a number of different kinds of racing options for go karts. There are sprint, endurance and speedway races. The length of these races can range from 4 laps to 20 laps. When driving a racing kart, it is important to wear a helmet as well as some kind of leather overalls, similar to what motorcycle riders wear, just in case of accident.
Additionally, there remains a genre of racing that features homemade karts. This style of racing is not as well organized or as closely governed as the official circuit, and instead relies on do-it-yourself organization. This tradition calls back to the soap carts that went down one long slope and featured idiosyncratic style. Likewise, these homemade karts are meant to be distinctive as well as effective.
