Street Go Karts

In general, go karts are designed to be ridden on specific tracks and surfaces—not as part of mainstream traffic. However, there are street go karts which can be legally driven on the street. These vehicles feature a go-kart engine and chassis and a fiberglass body and are capable of teaching highway speeds—though generally they are used more to commute around town.

Of course, many go karts go fast enough to be driven on the street; however, there are safety and visibility concerns to doing this with the average kart. To meet these concerns, the street go kart feature pennants and flashing lights on the poles on each of its four corners so that the conventional vehicle drivers will see it.

Street go karts are also required to pass safety tests, just as any other vehicle. Also, as with motorcycles and scooters, street go karts must be driven while wearing a helmet.
